I have a short bus that I have turned into my mobile office/living space. It also feeds my DIY addiction on a regular basis. Here are a few of the items that have made a big difference in making it a comfortable, live-able space. I am still adding items to the page, so please bookmark it and check back often.
This is the awesome little diesel heater I installed in my bus. There are a lot of different brands available. I chose this one because the amazon reviewers had positive comments about the customer service of the company. I almost bought one that was $80 cheaper, but it wasn’t really. The shipping cost would have been $168. Make sure you read about the seller and shipping before you purchase a diesel heater.
I wouldn’t normally care one way or anther about a vent, but after I installed it for my fresh air inlet (see diesel heater above) I got compliments from my neighbors about how nice it looked. So, here you go…it gets it’s own listing on my skoolie gear page.
Quoting one of my grandkids’ books, “Everyone Poops”.
Yes, I am recommending a toilet that cost just under a grand. I have used this toilet full time for almost 4 years. Why? It really does work, it is clean and neat and NOT stinky. When is the last time anyone with a black tank system could say that? Speaking of…I did a cost analysis before I purchased the toilet. It paid for itself in 19 months. AND…the company’s customer service is top notch.
I use coconut coir in my composting toilet. You can also use peat moss, but I like the coconut coir because it also acts as an air freshener for the bus. Yes, you read that right.
This has been my on demand propane water heater since I moved into the bus in March 2016. It works great! I had an HVAC guy make a vent for it, so the exhaust runs out to the side of the bus. I will eventually need to replace it because I live in an area with lots of minerals in the water. When I replace it, I plan on going to the L10 and revent it through the roof. I am in the process of shooting a video about installation consideration for instant propane water heaters.
My bus is diesel, but my little generator is gasoline, so I need to carry gas.
If you get a gas can, get a good quality one! I am impressed with the quality of this brand. It is the replacement for a cheap can that rusted and leaked gasoline as I was driving down the road. Learn from my mistake. Get a good one.
My Motorcycle Transport Deck
I bolted 3 of these together to make my motorcycle ramp. It is a great addition to my bus build. I can easily ride the bike up and down the ramp, which makes it perfect as my “toad” vehicle when I am traveling.
My Maxx air fan is perfect in so many ways. When I cook, it clears the air, when I fart, it clears the air, it sucks the life out of bugs. When it is cold outside, I can use it as a ceiling fan to circulate the air while the cover is closed. When it is raining, I can leave it open because the outer shell keeps the rain out.
