 Riding Gear & Accesories

Everything I recommend has been tested extensively, as in more than 10,000 miles of riding in all kinds of weather conditions for multiple years.

ROC Straps

If you are adding any kind of luggage to your bike, use these instead of bungee cords. I will not travel without them. How good are they? The big bag that always seems to be on my bike, has my livelihood in it. The Roc Straps are what holds it in place. I have NEVER had an issue with one of the Roc Straps. Get the big ones for big or heavy stuff. The smaller ones work great too.

Water Proof Bags - I use 3 different kinds. The large bags allow me to carry video cameras inside their specialty cases.

LARGE BAGS

Kwik Tek Dry Pak Waterproof Duffel Bag -

These things LAST. I have been using these bags since 2014. Yes, they are almost 6 years old and still going strong. They have more miles on them than most bikes. They have been on 3 Motorcycle Cannonball Runs, The Chase and who knows how many more adventures. More on the horizon!

MEDIUM ROLL TOP BAGS

KastKing Dry Bags, 100% Waterproof Storage Bags, Military Grade Construction. $20-22 for the 30 liter size. These I use for riding gear, clothes & camping gear - I have 3 of the 30 liter size. One 30 L bag is big enough to hold all my winter & severe weather riding gear, a set of long johns, extra gloves and socks. They come in several different colors.

Caw.Car Phone Mount

I am really impressed with this mount. It is easy to take my phone off to take photos or video, but when it is on the mount, it stays put! I don’t even use the bands for the corners. I used for the 2018 Motorcycle Cannonball and for the 2019 Cross Country Chase. After a little over 20,000 miles, I think I can say it works.

Water Proof & Rebecca Proof phone case

I have ridden for days in the rain with my phone sitting in the phone mount, even dropped the phone in the Blanco River a few times & basically beat the shit out of it on a motorcycle for about 10,000 miles so far. I am impressed. In the past I spent 3-4x’s more on otter box cases, but this one works better. I think they also have cases for other phone styles.

Waterproofing Leathers & Boots

Atsko Sno-Seal Original Beeswax Waterproofing

How do you waterproof your leathers & boots? I have been using Sno-Seal for 20 years. I have tried other products, but I never get the same waterproofing results & always go back to Sno-seal. Here’s a trick to help you really seal in the waterproofing - use your heat gun! I am serious. Maybe I should do a video about this.

TENTS

I have 2 tents, one is sized for 2 persons, the other for 1 person. Each has an aspect I really like. Both are easy to set up quickly, in the dark, on concrete or hard surfaces. You don’t have to drive a stake in the ground to use it.

ALPS Mountaineering Lynx 1-Person Tent - If space on the bike is the issue, this is the one that I pack. It is the most compact, easiest to set up. Not much head room for sitting up & changing clothes, but it is doable.

Slightly larger ALPS Mountaineering Tent

They say 3 can sleep in there…uhhh, that might be possible, if they are as small as me and drugged so they don’t move. But, seriously, I really like this tent. Easy to set up, free standing, compact. Room to sit/stand to dress.

Compact Sleeping Pad

Easy to fold up and stick in the tent bag, stays inflated, good restful sleep is possible. I also have a thermarest that I love, but the space saving aspect of this one means it is what I pack most of the time.

Bisgear 12pcs Camping Stove & Cookware Set

COFFEE!!!! I Need Coffee in the morning & I also need sustenance on the cheap. This little stove & cookware set makes it easy. I also carry this with me when I know I will be in a hotel every night (Motorcycle Cannonball) It is handy for all the right reasons. I want a cup of hot tea, I want coffee without wandering to the lobby in my pj’s, I don’t have the energy to find a restaurant, but I can open a can of soup.

Check back often, I am adding more to my lists as I have time.
